Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego has two primary program campuses in City Heights & Oceanside.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Golf, the First Assistant Golf Professional will provide day-to-day leadership and support to planning, coaching, and supervision on all aspects of the Golf & Life Skills program. With direction and support from the Director of Golf this position will facilitate communication and collaboration with the Learning Center team. This position will uphold policy implementation and safety of Pro Kids programs, as well as assisting Pro Kids in accomplishing the mission of their strategic plan by ensuring that all aspects of the golf operations, programs, facilities, and services are being performed in a professional and responsible manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in structure and creation of golf program curriculum and special events
  • Supports Director of Golf in creating department schedules
  • Responsible for community outreach in collaboration with the Community Engagement Director
  • Department lead for volunteer communication and management
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration with learning center staff
  • Provides support to the learning center as needed
  • Makes program decisions in the absence of the Director of Golf
  • Manages the club repair and fitting program
  • Provides large and small group golf class instruction for ages 7-17
  • Performs professional mentorship of at least 10 members per year
  • Collects registrations and monitors progress of members and classes
  • Transports members to regulation golf courses for outings
  • Maintains good standing relationships with parents and families of our members
  • Acts as a role model for our members and team
  • Provides excellent customer service, professional advice, and assistance to all members and parents
  • Completes the requirements for the PGA (or LPGA) membership and maintain an active classification
  • Completes the requirements for The First Tee Recognized Coach Program

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • A well-rounded individual who is registered as an apprentice with either the PGA or LPGA and has passed his/her playing ability test
  • Passionate about working with kids; the ability to teach life lessons and core values is equal to the ability to teach golf skill
  • Experience in the golf industry, working with youth
  • Experience in working with a diverse community of children

Experience working with nonprofits, preferred

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that apply to dealing with staff, children and donors
  • Must have high level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain accurate data entry and record keeping
  • Proficient in basic computer skills, including MS Office
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable
  • Clean driving record

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work is performed on a golf course with a moderate noise level; employee will occasionally work at a computer station and operate electronic equipment; regularly communicate by telephone and in-person with staff and other professionals; occasionally lift, carry and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Golf, the Pro Shop Manager provides day-to-day leadership to the supervision, operation and presentation of the Pro Shop and Pro Shop Attendants.  With direction and support from the Director of Golf, this position will promote an environment of excellent customer service, enforcement of policies and procedures, responsible fiscal management, as well as supervision of general golf program operations. This position will uphold policy implementation and safety of Pro Kids programs, as well as assisting Pro Kids in accomplishing the mission of their strategic plan by ensuring that all aspects of the golf operations, programs, facilities, and services are being performed in a professional and responsible manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages Pro Shop team to ensure customer satisfaction and successful program operations
  • Assists in management of fiscal and material resources responsibily and intentionally
  • Assures staffing levels and coverage are appropriate to meet Pro Shop needs
  • Promotes positive employee relations while upholding policies and procedures
  • Creates a positive and safe environment for personal, social and athletic growth
  • Assists in hiring, training, and retention of Pro Shop staff
  • Provides oversight of the Pro Shop sales and inventory
  • Oversees Pro Shop sales and golf course marketing and social media to maximize revenue
  • Maintains relationships with golf related partners
  • Organizes and maintains systems for running daily reports, documentation and record keeping
  • Interacts with participants in a positive manner while being consistent, fair and treating everyone in the program with dignity and respect
  • Acts as role model, complying with policies and procedures at all times including professional appearance and demeanor
  • Communicates in a positive and effective manner with all participants, school officials, familes, community members, team and co-workers
  • Complies to systems for follow through for general housekeeping of the clubhouse space

  • Associates Degree in Business Management, Sports Administration, Education, recreation fields or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional communication, fiscal management and managerial skills
  • Experience with management and positive discipline in youth programs
  • Charismatic, personable, and motivating in working with youth and volunteers
  • Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner
  • Experience in working with a diverse community

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Pro Shop manager and the Director of Golf, the Golf Shop Attendant will provide excellent service to members and participants in the area of tee time coordination, tournament operations, rules and policies, pace of play, accurate daily play totals, answering public inquiries and other duties needed by the Golf Professionals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to members and the public
  • Responsible and accurate management of financial and facility resources.
  • Input of information and transactions through Pro Kids database
  • Answering calls and providing information for members and participants
  • Support overall Pro Kids activities, events and programs as needed
  • Comply with systems for documentation, record keeping and general housekeeping of facilities
  • Understand and be able to articulate the mission of Pro Kids and The First Tee Life Skills Education as outlined in The First Tee guidelines
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, school officials, parents, community members and co-workers
  • Act as role model, complying with policies and procedures at all times including professional appearance and demeanor
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff.
  • Attend and engage in all required meetings and trainings

  • Assist in other appropriate ways or as assigned

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Knowledgeable of the game of golf including game rules, etiquette and equipment

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multitasked environment
  • Attention to detail with data entry and recordkeeping
  • Exhibit proficiency in basic computer skills, including e-mail and word processing
  • Experience working with a diverse community
  • Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner

  • Highly dependable and ability to work well with others

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Position may require standing, walking, and sitting. Position involves use of a keyboard involving repetitive motions with fingers, and the use of telephone and face-to-face communication that require accurate perception of speech as well as speaking and hearing. Position also requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Activities regularly take place in office/classroom setting but may occur outdoors on golf course, field, or other irregular locations for field trips and workshops.
