The First Tee and VISION54 See Eye-to-Eye on Young People’s Futures

St. Augustine, Fla. (June 29, 2012) – The First Tee, a youth development organization that provides life skills and character education programs using golf as a platform, has partnered with VISION54 to develop content for its programs around young people building a “vision” for their future.

VISION54 offers integrated coaching programs that increase performance and individual development for golfers, athletes, coaches and businesses.

Vision is one of The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits™, a list of nine health and wellness topics designed for easy understanding and learning by young people in The First Tee’s programs. The First Tee defines vision as the ability for an individual to learn from the past, value the present, create their vision and future to ultimately “leave a footprint.”

The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits were created in collaboration with the ANNIKA Foundation and Florida Hospital for Children. World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam serves as spokesperson. The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits are energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community.

Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson, co-founders of VISION54, were a part of the original development team for The First Tee Life Skills Experience and The First Tee Coach Program. They were also instrumental in creating The First Tee’s Coach Philosophy, which permeates the network of almost 200 chapters and is integrated into the training of physical educators delivering The First Tee National School Program.

“We are pleased to work with Lynn and Pia on further developing the content around ‘vision’ and we trust that the young people exposed to a deeper understanding will benefit,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., chief executive of The First Tee. “Our Nine Healthy Habits platform provides an exciting opportunity for coaches and physical educators to help young people understand the importance of physical, social and emotional wellness.”

“The First Tee and its vision have always been near and dear to our hearts,” said Marriott and Nilsson. “VISION54 is honored and delighted to once again support The First Tee and this important initiative of the Nine Healthy Habits. We believe creating a vision and then executing that vision is one of the most powerful habits for the future of anyone’s life and golf game.”
