Charity Spotlight: Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego

June 10, 2014: The Farmers Insurance Open and the PGA TOUR are where the greatest golfers of today compete; Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego focuses on molding the future leaders and golfers of tomorrow. Founded in 1994, Pro Kids' mission is to challenge underserved youth to excel in life by promoting character development, life skills, and core values through education and the game of golf. 

The Larger Than Life Story of Buckeye Ernie Wright

May 14, 2014: I've struggled to find the right picture with which to introduce the remarkable life of Ohioan Ernie Wright. Ernie starred on the football fields of Toledo, Columbus, Los Angeles, San Diego and Cincinnati but his greatest legacy lie in his founding and building Pro Kids, a remarkable inner city education and sports facility that has been a prized charity of the PGA and USGA. 

Archrivals Team Up for Pro Kids

May 13, 2014: It all began in 2002, when Ernie Wright, founder of Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego, spoke with The First Tee national office and Callaway Golf abut creating a youth golf program in North County. Finally, in 2011, Pro Kids started construction on its second facility located in Oceanside, on a site adjacent to the Oceanside Municipal Golf Course.

Over $2.8 million generated for San Diego community through 2014 Farmers Insurance Open

April 1, 2014: Farmers Insurance and the Century Club of San Diego announced that the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open generated over $2.8 million for San Diego charities and community organizations. It is a nearly $300,000 increase over funds generated by the 2013 tournament.

Pro Kids explore Suzie's Farm with Savor San Diego

February 18, 2014: In City Heights, the non-profit Pro Kids organization uses golf as the hook to involve more than 1,500 children with various types of learning, including healthy eating and fitness. Fieldtrips are favorites, and on this episode of Savor San Diego, Chef Su-Mei Yu takes a group of Pro Kids to Suzie's Farms for a hands-on lesson in fermentation.

Snow lands at Colina Park Golf Course

Rancho Santa Fe residents help bring snow to Colina Park Golf Course for a day of fun

December 24, 2013: Squeals and screams filled Colina Park Golf Course on Dec. 14, as members of Pro Kids: The First Tee of San Diego participated in the fifth annual Snow Day. The event allowed 100 elementary school members to spend the day in the snow. This event was made possible by the generosity of The Bradley Foundation and Rancho Santa Fe residents Phil and Jenny Ward.

Local teens compete at Pebble Beach

October 4, 2013:Pro Kids The First Tee golfers John Horvath and Lloyd Kay got an opportunity of a lifetime.  After qualifying and completing a series of interviews they were selected to compete in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach Sept. 27 to Sept. 29. The Nature Valley First Tee Open pairs promising youth golfers with golf professionals to compete as a team.

Future Legends golf tournament to be held at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club

Golf program helps kids beyond on the green

Pro Kids Golf Academy Gives Players a Certain Glow
May 9, 2011: This past weekend was the second annual 24-hour Golf-a-Thon. Seventy-five people — most of them kids — participated in the fundraiser, earning money from sponsors for each hole they played. The event is expected to raise close to $35,000 toward the construction of a new Pro Kids/First Tee facility in Oceanside. Featured on sandiego.org.

PGA TOUR Wives Clean the Beach with Pro Kids Members

Ben Crane Hosts Junior Clinic at Torrey Pines
January 27, 2011: Ben Crane hosted the Pro Kids/The First Tee of San Diego Junior Golf Clinic on the fourth tee of Torrey Pines' North Course, where he hung out for over an hour with about 120 children from the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA and Pro Kids Golf Academy, sharing valuable lessons he has learned both on and off the course.
